Microsoft has responded to a copyright infringement lawsuit brought by the New York Times over alleged use of content to train generative artificial intelligence, calling the claim a false narrative of \u201cdoomsday futurology\u201d. The tech giant said the lawsuit was near-sighted and akin to Hollywood\u2019s losing backlash against the VCR.<\/p>\n

In a motion to dismiss<\/a> part of the lawsuit filed Monday, Microsoft, which was sued in December alongside ChatGPT-maker OpenAI<\/a>, scoffed at the newspaper\u2019s claim that Times content receives \u201cparticular emphasis\u201d and that tech companies \u201cseek to free-ride on the Times\u2019s massive investment in its journalism\u201d.<\/p>\n
