This live blog is closed<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2024\/mar\/25\/chinese-hackers-targeted-electoral-commission-and-politicians-say-security-services\">Chinese hackers targeted UK\u2019s Electoral Commission and politicians, say security services<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Andrew Bowie,<\/strong> the energy minister, said the government should have revived investment in nuclear energy \u201cyears ago\u201d in an interview this morning.<\/p>\n<p>While doing an interview round on behalf of the government, Bowie told Times Radio that the government is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/biggest-expansion-of-nuclear-power-for-70-years-to-create-jobs-reduce-bills-and-strengthen-britains-energy-security\">investing \u00a3350m in nuclear energy<\/a>. But it should have happened sooner, he said.<\/p>\n<p>I make no bones about it. We should have done this years ago. We are running to catch up, but we have just this year delivered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/civil-nuclear-roadmap-to-2050\">our civil nuclear roadmap<\/a>. We\u2019ve announced our intention to build a third gigawatt project. We\u2019re investing \u00a3350m in new nuclear power to ease Vladimir Putin out of the nuclear fuels market.
