Just six major technology companies are at the heart of the AI sector through an \u201cinterconnected web\u201d of more than 90 investments and partnerships links, the UK\u2019s competition regulator has warned, sparking increased concern about the anti-competitive nature of the technology.<\/p>\n

Sarah Cardell, the chief executive of the Competition and Markets Authority, said AI foundation models \u2013 general-purpose AI systems such as OpenAI\u2019s GPT-4 and Google\u2019s Gemini, on which consumer and business products are frequently built \u2013 were a potential \u201cparadigm shift\u201d for society.<\/p>\n
