In real life, most people recognise that the portable computers we carry around with us make <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/article\/2024\/jun\/15\/im-an-expert-on-adolescence-heres-why-a-smartphone-ban-isnt-the-answer-and-what-we-should-do-instead\">excessive demands<\/a> on our time and attention. Just as children need support to develop healthy eating habits, they need encouragement to use the internet in moderation \u2013 especially when very young. But reluctance to give in to unrealistic \u201cban them!\u201d messages about smartphones can shade into an impression that there is really nothing to be done.
