It was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/artificialintelligenceai\">about AI<\/a>, which he sees as \u201cthe defining opportunity of our generation\u201d. The UK, he declared \u201cis the nation of Babbage, Lovelace and Turing\u201d, not to mention the country \u201cthat gave birth to the modern computer and the world wide web. So mark my words \u2013 Britain will be one of the great AI superpowers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stirring stuff, eh. Within days of taking office, the PM had invited Matt Clifford, a smart tech bro from central casting, to think about \u201chow we seize the opportunities of AI\u201d. Clifford came up with a 50-point <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/ai-opportunities-action-plan\/ai-opportunities-action-plan\">AI Opportunities Action Plan<\/a> that Starmer accepted in its entirety, saying that he would \u201cput the full weight of the British state\u201d behind it. He also appointed Clifford as his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/appointment-of-matt-clifford-cbe-as-the-ai-opportunities-adviser\">AI Opportunities Adviser<\/a> to oversee implementation of the plan and report directly to him.
