Microsoft released a new version of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2013\/may\/22\/xbox-one-kinect-controller-hands-on\">Kinect with the Xbox One in 2013<\/a>, only for it to become an embarrassing flop; the Kinect line was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/why-microsoft-xbox-kinect-didnt-take-off-2015-9\">unceremoniously discontinued in 2017<\/a>. The Guardian reached out to multiple people involved in the development of the peripheral, all of whom declined to comment or did not wish to go on record.
