We asked writers including Tracy Chevalier, Kamila Shamsie and David Baddiel if they agree<\/p>\n<p>This week has seen writers divided over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2025\/mar\/12\/a-machine-shaped-hand-read-a-story-from-openais-new-creative-writing-model\">a story written by an AI model<\/a> that is \u201cgood at creative writing\u201d \u2013 at least according to Sam Altman, the CEO of ChatGPT company OpenAI, which is developing the new model. Author Jeanette Winterson, writing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2025\/mar\/12\/jeanette-winterson-ai-alternative-intelligence-its-capacity-to-be-other-is-just-what-the-human-race-needs\">in the Guardian<\/a> on Wednesday, agreed with him, calling the story \u2013 which is a metafictional piece about grief \u2013 \u201cbeautiful and moving\u201d.
