In 2021, YouTube calculated that videos related to the game \u2013 tutorials, walk-throughs, homages, parodies \u2013 had collectively been viewed 1tn times. In short, it is a phenomenon.<\/p>\n

Such is the strength of feeling, almost all of it positive, about Minecraft that it was only a matter of time before someone tried to turn it into a film. After all, you have a historically popular product and a highly engaged fanbase: what could possibly go wrong? Turns out, quite a lot. Last September, the first trailer<\/a> for the film \u2013 titled A Minecraft Movie \u2013 was released, and the reaction was instant and violent. \u201cMinecraft fans devastated by \u2018awful\u2019 live-action trailer\u201d read one headline<\/a> the following day. Some called<\/a> it \u201ca crime against humanity\u201d; others<\/a> \u201ca soulless neon abomination\u201d. In less than 24 hours, the website GamingBible had called it \u201ca curse on my eyes<\/a>\u201d and \u201cpure nightmare fuel<\/a>\u201d.
