Previously, the company had sought more independence for its for-profit division.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe made the decision for the nonprofit to stay in control after hearing from civic leaders and having discussions with the offices of the Attorneys General of California and Delaware,\u201d said CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/sam-altman\">Sam Altman<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/index\/evolving-our-structure\/\">a letter to employees<\/a>.
