In the last two weeks, thousands of \u201cadult only\u201d and \u201cnot safe for work\u201d games have disappeared from Steam<\/a> and itch.io<\/a> \u2013 two of the most prominent distribution platforms for PC video games \u2013 as they scrambled to comply with stricter rules mandated by payment processors such as MasterCard, Visa, and PayPal.<\/p>\n

These rules were established after a campaign by the organisation Collective Shout<\/a>, which urged payment processors to stop facilitating payments to platforms hosting \u201crape, incest and child sexual abuse-themed games\u201d. But the new rules have affected a far broader range of games \u2013 including some award-winning titles.<\/p>\n
