It wasn\u2019t a major problem \u2013 no punctured tyre or busted door handle \u2013 simply that my maps app wouldn\u2019t connect to my phone\u2019s music player any more. An \u201cupdate\u201d during the night had stolen the function away, robbing me of the ability to change my music and track where I was on the map at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s things like this that make automatic updates the mundane bane of my existence. The promise of forced software patches is that they improve the software and apps we use every day \u2013 make them more convenient, maintain our security and so on.
