The family of a teenager who took his own life after months of conversations with ChatGPT<\/a> now says OpenAI<\/a> weakened safety guidelines in the months before his death.<\/p>\n

In July 2022, OpenAI\u2019s guidelines on how ChatGPT should answer inappropriate content, including \u201ccontent that promotes, encourages, or depicts acts of self-harm, such as suicide, cutting, and eating disorders\u201d, were simple: the AI chatbot should respond, \u201cI can\u2019t answer that\u201d, the guidelines read<\/a>.<\/p>\n
