The speed of technological development \u2013 as well as geopolitical turbulence \u2013 is collapsing the distinction between theoretical arguments and real world events. A political row<strong> <\/strong>over the US military\u2019s AI capabilities coincides with its unprecedented use in the Iran crisis.<\/p>\n<p>The AI company Anthropic insisted that it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2026\/03\/03\/us-militarys-dangerous-slide-toward-fully-autonomous-killing\">could not remove safeguards<\/a> preventing the Department of Defense from using its technology for domestic mass surveillance or autonomous lethal weapons.\u00a0The Pentagon said it had no interest in such uses \u2013 but that such decisions should not be made by companies. Outrageously, the administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2026\/mar\/05\/trump-anthropic-ai-pentagon\">has not just\u00a0fired Anthropic but blacklisted it<\/a> as a supply-chain\u00a0risk. OpenAI stepped in, while insisting that it had maintained the red lines declared by Anthropic. Yet in an internal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c3rz1nd0egro\">response to the user and employee backlash<\/a>, its CEO Sam Altman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2026\/mar\/04\/sam-altman-openai-pentagon\">acknowledged<\/a> that it does not control the Pentagon\u2019s use of its products and that the deal\u2019s handling made OpenAI look \u201copportunistic and sloppy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Do you have an opinion on the issues raised in this article?
