Investor money flowed freely during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/games\/2022\/jul\/12\/pushing-buttons-is-it-game-over-for-gaming-pandemic-boom\">the pandemic gaming boom<\/a>, but now the well has run dry. It is increasingly difficult, for indie developers especially, to get the capital to make games. It is extremely unusual, then, to hear of a developer <em>returning <\/em>an investor\u2019s money. Yet that is what Speculative Agency, developers of All Will Rise, have just done.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, All Will Rise, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/games\/2025\/aug\/21\/all-will-rise-the-game-empowering-players-to-tackle-real-world-problems\">a deck-building game about a team of activists<\/a> fighting for the future of their oligarch-run city, received money from Microsoft as part of a developer acceleration programme.
