I\u2019m driving through some of Britain\u2019s loveliest landscape \u2013 mountains, rivers, lochs and firths \u2013 but I hardly notice. I\u2019m focused hard \u2013 on the road in front, but mainly on two numbers on the dashboard. One is how far it is in miles to where I\u2019m going; the other is the range in miles remaining in the battery. Sometimes, especially on downhill stretches when what is known as \u201cregenerative braking\u201d means the battery is getting charged, I tell myself it\u2019s going to be OK, I\u2019ll make it.
