Can his beloved game theory explain why Silicon Valley\u2019s entrepreneurs consistently misuse it?<\/p>\n<p>Michael Wooldridge is like the teacher you wish you\u2019d had: approachable, able to explain difficult things in simple terms, neither dauntingly highbrow nor off-puttingly cool, and genuinely enthusiastic about what he does. \u201cI love it when you see the light go on in somebody, when they understand something that they didn\u2019t understand before,\u201d he says. \u201cI find that incredibly gratifying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He comes across a regular sort of guy, which, as an Oxford professor with more than 500 scientific articles and 10 books to his name, he clearly isn\u2019t. Typically, his favourite work is his contribution to Ladybird\u2019s Expert Books \u2013 an update of the classic children\u2019s series \u2013 on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.penguin.co.uk\/books\/307139\/artificial-intelligence-by-wooldridge-michael\/9780718188757\">artificial intelligence<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m very proud of this,\u201d he says, as he hands me a copy from his bookshelf. We\u2019re in his study in the University of Oxford\u2019s somewhat municipal computing department on a sunny spring day.
