Sony posted the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.playstation.com\/2026\/07\/01\/physical-disc-production-ending-in-january-2028-for-new-games-releasing-on-playstation-consoles\/\">news of its decision<\/a> on the PlayStation blog, less than a week after admitting that it would be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesindustry.biz\/playstation-once-again-pulls-purchased-studio-canal-content-from-user-libraries-because-of-licensing-arrangements\">deleting 550 movies<\/a> from the digital libraries of PlayStation owners due to the end of a licensing deal \u2013 thereby perfectly illustrating the dangers of purchasing digital products. (Surprise! You never actually owned them!) The move is in stark contrast with the company\u2019s stance on this very issue back in 2013. When Microsoft was attempting to push Xbox One as a digital-first console with strict controls on the sharing and reselling of its games, Sony brilliantly mocked its rival with <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/kWSIFh8ICaA?si=sNf-j3oOaPXVjyK2\">a short video<\/a> on how easy it was to lend physical games to pals on the PS4.
