Sign up for US Breaking News emails<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n The Trump administration is refusing to work with the newly appointed deputy head of the United Nations \u2060refugee agency, Reuters reported.<\/strong><\/p>\n Tressa Rae Finerty, an American who took up the role of deputy high commissioner at UNHCR earlier \u2060this month, has taken leave as she seeks a waiver from the US government that would allow her to carry out aspects of her duties, \u200baccording to seven diplomatic sources.<\/p>\n Speaking at the UN general assembly, Donald Trump re-issued<\/a> his threat to \u201cannihilate\u201d Iran and \u201cdrive them into Hell\u201d if the regime didn\u2019t capitulate and make a deal.\u201d<\/strong> He also said he was \u201cworking closely with the leaders of Russia<\/strong> and Ukraine<\/strong>\u201d to end the disastrous war, defended his administration\u2019s actions in Latin America \u2013 including the midnight raid to arrest former Venezuelan president Nic\u00f3las Maduro<\/strong>, defended his drone strikes on boats in the Caribbean<\/strong> and the Pacific, accused Mexico<\/strong> of being effectively controlled by the cartels, and said it was \u201cunacceptable\u201d for the US to share a border with a nation under such conditions, pointed to regime change in Cuba and said he would reject any calls for a \u201cglobalist scheme\u201d to control artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n Shortly after his UN address, Trump signed a Greenland deal, which Greenland\u2019s prime minister Jens-Frederick Nielsen said \u201cunderlines the importance of the Nato alliance.\u201d <\/strong>In tricky, carefully worded paragraphs, she said the agreement \u201crecognises the US defining historical and ongoing contributions to the security and defence of Greenland,\u201d but it also \u201crespects the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark, as well as Greenland\u2019s right to self-determination.\u201d<\/p>\n Trump told a CNN reporter<\/strong> at the UN general assembly on Tuesday that he was \u201csurprised\u201d the outlet was covering him, saying it \u2018shouldn\u2019t be here\u2019 after he banned the network alongside Politico<\/strong> and MS Now<\/strong> from the White House on Friday.<\/p>\n
