So when Lush\u2019s chief executive, Mark Constantine<\/a>, shut its thousands of Facebook, Instagram<\/a>, Snapchat and TikTok accounts on Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year<\/a>, he knew dropping off millions of customers\u2019 screens would damage his business.<\/p>\n

Its Facebook and Instagram accounts alone had 10.6 million followers and the void will result in an estimated \u00a310m hit to sales but Constantine<\/a>, one of the business\u2019s co-founders, said it had \u201cno choice\u201d after whistleblowers called attention to the negative impact social media sites such as Instagram are having on teenagers\u2019 mental health<\/a>.<\/p>\n
