In 2020, he promised autonomous cars the same year, saying: \u201cThere are no fundamental challenges.\u201d In 2019, he promised Teslas would be able to drive themselves by 2020 \u2013 converting into a fleet of 1m \u201crobotaxis\u201d. He has made similar predictions <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/video-elon-musk-promising-self-driving-cars\">every year<\/a> going back to 2014.<\/p>\n<p>From late 2020, Tesla <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2020\/10\/21\/21527577\/tesla-full-self-driving-autopilot-beta-software-update\">expanded beta trials of its \u201cFull Self-Driving\u201d software (FSD)<\/a> to about 60,000 Tesla owners, who must pass a safety test and pay $12,000 for the privilege.
