I just received a mysterious email. \u201cDear Wilfred,\u201d it began. \u201cYou better be a baller by this time. You better have a hot wife and kids. I hope you have a Porsche. If not, I don\u2019t know what is wrong with you man.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 280-word message, which arrived in my inbox this week, on the morning of my 31st birthday, was actually from someone who I knew well: myself, exactly 10 years ago.<\/p>\n
