Prarthna Singh describes the nationwide oxygen and bed shortages during India\u2019s second wave of Covid<\/a>, in April 2021, as a \u201ctraumatic time for everyone. People were carrying their loved ones from city to city. We all felt helpless.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time, the photographer <\/a>was living with her parents in Jaipur, Rajasthan, the \u201cpink city\u201d. The maharajah had most buildings painted this colour \u2013 which indicates hospitality \u2013 to welcome the Prince of Wales in 1876. Singh\u2019s portrait, of her mother meditating and stretching in her garden, echoes this history.<\/p>\n
