The music game \u2013 in which you play a cartoon trombonist making noises that bear only the vaguest resemblance to music \u2013 went viral last week; if you\u2019ve not seen it, here\u2019s the tweet from PC Gamer that started it all. I promise that your day will be vastly improved by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pcgamer\/status\/1572372646012260353?s=20&amp;t=9JgSYng7HkSZTJyxTkFmOA\">watching this video<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This game is very, very funny. It\u2019s \u201ca joke first and a game second,\u201d its creator Dan Vecchitto <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/games\/2022\/sep\/26\/trombone-champ-creator-dan-vecchitto-interview\">told the Guardian<\/a>. Part of its comedy is in the presentation \u2013 the discordant visual details, the random made-up facts on the loading screens \u2013 and part of it is in the sheer ridiculousness of what you\u2019re doing and how dismal it sounds. Here\u2019s the thing, though: I\u2019m a specialist in music games, with ateenaged obsession that lasted at least a decade, and Trombone Champ is genuinely a good and challenging rhythm game, as well as a good joke.<\/p>\n<p>Released in 1982, The Hobbit was an extraordinarily influential game that did more with the format of the text adventure than anything that had come before: players remember it not just for the colour of its descriptions, but the creative way that the game would respond to what you typed. Its visionary designer Veronika Megler talks about its making in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/games\/2022\/sep\/22\/i-saw-the-possibility-of-what-could-be-done-so-i-did-it-revolutionary-video-game-the-hobbit-turns-40\">this feature<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>HBO\u2019s The Last of Us show finally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rBRRDpQ0yc0&amp;ab_channel=HBOMax\">has a trailer<\/a>, in which we get to see Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Thankfully, it actually looks really good.<\/p>\n<p>The once-beleaguered game Cyberpunk 2077, which you might remember from its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/games\/2020\/dec\/18\/cyberpunk-2077-how-2020s-biggest-video-game-launch-turned-into-a-shambles\">shambolic launch<\/a> at the end of 2020, is enjoying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesradar.com\/cyberpunk-2077-beats-the-witcher-3s-all-time-concurrent-player-record-on-steam\/\">record player numbers<\/a> following a well-received spinoff anime series on Netflix, Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
