Twitter isn\u2019t a good place to be right now. That\u2019s nothing new, but the day-to-day awfulness has been ramped up by Elon Musk\u2019s chaotic acquisition. In the week since he marched through the company\u2019s San Francisco office holding a basin \u2013 so that he could tweet \u201clet that sink in\u201d \u2013 and dubbed himself first \u201cchief twit\u201d and then \u201cTwitter complaint hotline operator\u201d (his actual title, according to internal systems, is boring old \u201cchief executive officer\u201d), the world\u2019s richest man has done the corporate-takeover equivalent of flipping the table halfway through a game of chess.<\/p>\n

Externally, the changes are slim, but significant. One of his first acts was to order a change in the site\u2019s homepage. If you visit Twitter.com<\/a> without being logged into an account, you will no longer be sent to a log-in page; instead, you\u2019ll be taken to the Explore tab, the site\u2019s algorithmically curated selection of the best tweets and most popular trends. It\u2019s a change of focus, in other words, from encouraging users to sign up or log in, to embracing visitors who just want to see what\u2019s happening and then bail.<\/p>\n
