On the one hand, he\u2019s a creative genius. On the other, he\u2019s destroying a key debating chamber<\/p>\n

Watching what\u2019s going on at Twitter is like watching a guy losing his mind in slow motion. The guy in question is Elon Musk, who once upon a time was the world\u2019s richest man and now isn\u2019t. (That slot is apparently occupied by Bernard Arnault<\/a>, the luxury goods mogul.)<\/p>\n

Musk is in a hole but apparently doesn\u2019t know Denis Healey\u2019s First Law of Holes: when you\u2019re in one, stop digging. The funny thing is that he dug the hole himself. First, he paid way over the odds for Twitter. Then, when Tesla shares (the main source of his wealth) tanked, and Twitter\u2019s share price dropped, he tried to get out of the deal. That failed, so he was forced to borrow a lot of money \u2013 incurring interest payments of around a billion dollars a year \u2013 thereby becoming the reluctant owner of a loss-making company. And he hasn\u2019t the faintest idea of how to make it work.<\/p>\n
