The UK\u2019s would-be \u2018Amazon of banking\u2019 run by Nikolay Storonsky has raised alarm over delayed accounts, EU regulatory fines, its co-founder\u2019s Russian ties and issues with staff<\/p>\n

Minutes after Jeremy Hunt had finished speaking, Nikolay Storonsky collared the chancellor backstage. The 38-year-old co-founder of British financial technology company Revolut, wearing a tech bro\u2019s uniform of jeans and a sweater, had been listening to Hunt set out his vision of the UK as \u201cthe world\u2019s next Silicon Valley\u201d, in a speech last month<\/a> at the media group Bloomberg\u2019s London headquarters.<\/p>\n

The chancellor had praised Revolut as a \u201cshining\u201d success, saying the government was willing to back innovative companies \u201cto the hilt\u201d. After a quick introduction, the pair posed for a photo \u2013 which was swiftly posted by Storonsky\u2019s team to one of Revolut\u2019s Twitter accounts.<\/p>\n
