But six months on from the site\u2019s acquisition by Elon Musk, it isn\u2019t a picture of health, either.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2023\/apr\/16\/elon-musk-twitter-takeover-six-months\">our look at the last half year<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Twitter is now worth less than half of what Musk paid for it, having lost more than $20bn (\u00a316.4bn) in value, according to calculations based on a leaked memo.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>According to Travis Brown, a software developer who has been tracking Twitter\u2019s subscription service, the new-look Blue has about 550-585,000 subscribers, which equates to $4m+ a month in revenue. Twitter will need many more sign-ups to offset the advertising loss.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Over the Easter weekend, any tweet containing a Substack link was algorithmically deprioritised, blocked from being liked or retweeted, and hidden in search. Searches for the term \u201csubstack\u201d itself were automatically replaced with searches for the word \u201cnewsletter\u201d. And many users who did manage to find and click on a link to a Substack site reported being warned by Twitter that the service was \u201cunsafe or malicious\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Similar to Mastodon, Bluesky is a federated social network, which, at its most basic level, means that users can participate through different providers instead of a huge central one.
